Plagiarism Screening

All manuscripts submitted to AZKIYA: Jurnal Ilmiah Pengkajian dan Penelitian Pendidikan Islam are screened for originality using Turnitin before proceeding to the peer-review process. Additional web-based searches or other similarity-detection tools may also be used when necessary.

The journal sets a maximum overall similarity index of 20%, excluding the bibliography, properly cited quotations, article templates, affiliations, and commonly used academic expressions. However, the similarity score is not the sole criterion for determining plagiarism. The editorial team will carefully examine the Turnitin Similarity Report to assess the sources, patterns, and extent of the detected similarities.

The Turnitin screening result, including the similarity percentage, will be recorded in the journal’s editorial files. The report or relevant findings may be provided to the corresponding author when revision or clarification is required.

Manuscripts with a similarity index of 20% or below may proceed to the next editorial stage, provided that no substantial unattributed copying, inappropriate paraphrasing, self-plagiarism, or duplicate publication is identified. Manuscripts with a similarity index above 20% may be returned to the authors for revision or rejected, depending on the nature and extent of the similarities. Revised manuscripts may be screened again before being submitted for peer review or accepted for publication.

A low similarity score does not automatically indicate that a manuscript is free from plagiarism. Likewise, a similarity score above the permitted threshold does not automatically constitute plagiarism when the similarities originate from properly cited quotations, references, standard terminology, or commonly used research methods. The final decision is made by the editorial team based on a careful and contextual examination of the similarity report.

Manuscripts containing substantial plagiarism, fabricated citations, unauthorized duplication, or other forms of academic misconduct will be rejected regardless of the overall similarity percentage. If plagiarism is discovered after publication, AZKIYA will take appropriate action in accordance with its Publication Ethics, including correction or retraction of the published article.
