Peer Review Process

All manuscripts submitted to AZKIYA: Jurnal Ilmiah Pengkajian dan Penelitian Pendidikan Islam must be submitted electronically through the journal’s Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform. Authors are required to register and log in before submitting a manuscript.

Initial Editorial Screening

Each submitted manuscript undergoes an initial assessment by the editorial team. The assessment includes:

  • conformity with the journal’s focus and scope;
  • compliance with the author guidelines and article template;
  • originality and similarity screening;
  • academic quality and clarity of writing;
  • basic methodological adequacy; and
  • compliance with research and publication ethics.

Manuscripts that do not meet the journal’s requirements may be rejected by the editor without being sent for external peer review.

Double-Anonymous Peer Review

Manuscripts that pass the initial editorial screening are reviewed using a double-anonymous peer-review process, also known as double-blind peer review. The identities of the authors are concealed from the reviewers, and the identities of the reviewers are concealed from the authors.

Each manuscript is normally evaluated by at least two independent reviewers with relevant expertise in the subject area of the manuscript. Reviewers are selected based on their academic competence, research experience, independence, and absence of conflicts of interest.

Reviewers must maintain the confidentiality of the manuscript and must not use unpublished information, data, or ideas for personal benefit.

Review Criteria

Reviewers evaluate manuscripts based on:

  • relevance to the journal’s focus and scope;
  • originality and scholarly contribution;
  • clarity of the research problem and objectives;
  • appropriateness of the theoretical framework;
  • quality and suitability of the research methods;
  • accuracy of data analysis and interpretation;
  • depth of discussion;
  • relevance and currency of references;
  • ethical compliance; and
  • clarity, coherence, and organization of the manuscript.

Based on their evaluation, reviewers may recommend:

  1. acceptance without revision;
  2. acceptance with minor revisions;
  3. resubmission after major revisions; or
  4. rejection.

Revision Process

Authors must respond to reviewer comments carefully and submit a revised manuscript within the specified period. Authors are expected to provide a point-by-point response explaining how each comment has been addressed.

A revised manuscript may be returned to the same reviewers or evaluated by the editor, depending on the extent of the revisions required.

Failure to submit revisions within the specified period without prior notification may result in the manuscript being treated as a new submission or withdrawn from the editorial process.

Editorial Decision

The final decision regarding acceptance or rejection is made by the Editor-in-Chief or the assigned editor based on:

  • the reviewers’ recommendations;
  • the quality of the revised manuscript;
  • compliance with the journal’s policies;
  • academic and ethical considerations; and
  • the manuscript’s contribution to Islamic Religious Education and related fields.

Reviewer recommendations serve as an important consideration, but the final publication decision remains the responsibility of the editor.

Manuscripts submitted by editors, editorial board members, or individuals closely associated with the journal will be handled independently by another editor who has no conflict of interest.

Confidentiality and Publication Integrity

The editorial team and reviewers must maintain the confidentiality of manuscripts, reviewer reports, author information, and editorial correspondence throughout and after the review process.

AZKIYA does not guarantee the acceptance of any submitted manuscript. When delays occur during the peer-review process, the editorial team will inform the author whenever reasonably possible.
