Author Guidelines

AUTHOR GUIDELINES

Journal of Geology and Mining (JGP) - Universitas Kutai Kartanegara

Authors intending to submit a manuscript to the Journal of Geology and Mining (JGP) must strictly adhere to the following guidelines. Manuscripts that do not conform to these specifications may be returned to the authors prior to the review process.

1. General Provisions

  • Language: Manuscripts may be written in standard Indonesian or English.

  • Manuscript Types: Accepts original research papers and comprehensive review articles covering geology, earth sciences, geotechnics, and mining engineering.

  • Format: Submitted in Microsoft Word (.doc or .docx), A4 paper size, 1.15 line spacing, 2.5 cm margins, using Times New Roman 11 pt.

  • Page Count: Length should range between 8 to 15 pages, including figures, tables, and references.

2. Manuscript Structure

Manuscripts should be organized in the following order:

  1. Title: Concise, specific, and informative (maximum 15 words).

  2. Author Information: Full name(s) without academic titles, institutional affiliations, and the email address of the corresponding author.

  3. Abstract: Written in both English and Indonesian (150–250 words), concisely summarizing the background, objectives, methods, main findings, and conclusions.

  4. Keywords: 3–5 words or short phrases, separated by semicolons (;).

  5. Introduction: States the research background, problem statement, literature review (state-of-the-art), and objective(s).

  6. Methodology: Detailed descriptions of field mapping, sampling techniques, laboratory testing, numerical simulations, or analytical procedures.

  7. Results and Discussion: Clear presentation of research data (maps, charts, tables) accompanied by critical scientific discussion comparing findings with relevant previous literature.

  8. Conclusion: Directly addresses the research objectives in narrative format.

  9. Acknowledgements (Optional): Recognizes funding organizations (grants, company sponsorships) or technical support.

  10. References: Formatted according to APA 7th Edition.

3. Figures, Maps, and Tables

  • Geological Maps & Figures: High-resolution graphics (at least 300 dpi). Geological maps must include a north indicator, scale bar, grid coordinates (UTM/Geographic), and a legible legend.

  • Tables: Formatted using standard Word table tools (avoid pasting images of tables) without vertical borders.

  • Captions: Sequentially numbered with clear descriptive titles (e.g., Figure 1. Geological Map of the Study Area, Table 1. Rock Mass Properties).

4. Citations & References

  • The use of reference management software (such as Mendeley, Zotero, or EndNote) is strongly encouraged.

  • A minimum of 10 references is required, where at least 80% are primary literature sources (peer-reviewed journals) published within the last 10 years.

  • Follow APA 7th Edition style for in-text citations and reference list entries.

Submission Preparation Checklist

All submissions must meet the following requirements.

  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, RTF, or WordPerfect document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, which is found in About the Journal.
  • If submitting to a peer-reviewed section of the journal, the instructions in Ensuring a Blind Review have been followed.

The names and email addresses entered in this journal site will be used exclusively for the stated purposes of Journal of Geology and Mining, Universitas Kutai Kartanegara (Unikarta) and will not be made available for any other purpose or to any other party.

Data Collection and Usage:

  • Registered Users: Personal information collected during registration (such as name, affiliation, email, and area of expertise) is used solely to facilitate communication, peer-review management, and editorial operations.

  • Authors: Names, affiliations, and email addresses of authors of published articles will be publicly displayed as part of the official academic record.

  • Confidentiality: The journal editorial board is committed to protecting the privacy of its users and will not sell, lease, or distribute personal data to third parties without prior consent, except as required by law.
