Abstract

Gross motor development is a fundamental aspect of early childhood growth and development that includes body coordination, balance, agility, and basic movement skills. The increasing use of digital technology has reduced children's physical activity, resulting in less optimal stimulation of gross motor development. This study employed a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method by analyzing 8 selected scientific articles from 120 articles identified through Google Scholar and Publish or Perish, published between 2023 and 2026. The review findings indicate that all traditional games examined engklek, coconut-shell stilts (egrang batok kelapa), gobak sodor, sepit-sepitan, and jump rope have a positive and significant effect on the gross motor development of young children. The engklek game and its variation (kadende) were found to be the most effective, with dominant indicators including balance, movement coordination, agility, and muscle strength, supported by consistent findings across four studies. The sepit-sepitan game achieved the highest outcome, with 96% of children's motor skills developing according to expectations. These findings recommend the systematic integration of traditional games into the Early Childhood Education (PAUD) curriculum as a culturally based strategy for stimulating gross motor development.
